Today, fourteen years after the fall of the Wall, there is no apparent sign of that summer day that signaled the first steps towards the creation and independence of Moldavia.
It was from here that a huge crowd set off to meet their Romanian neighbors on the other bank of the Prut, crossing a small bridge that had been closed for decades, and filling the river with red roses.
Non ! C'est pas une image d'un film Western mais d'un village moldave, Sculeni, au bord du fleuve Prout, le fleuve qui était devenu, durant l'ère Stalinienne, le fameux rideaux de fer, jusqu'à la chute de l'Union Soviètique...
Aujourd'hui, quatorze ans apres la chute du mur, aucun signe apparent de ce jour d'été qui a marqué les premiers pas vers la création et l'indépendance de la Moldavie.
C'est d'ici qu'une foule immense est partie à la rencontre de ses voisins roumains sur l'autre rive du Prout, en traversant un petit pont fermé depuis des décennies, et en remplissant la rivière de roses rouges.
